The UCSB Jazz Ensemble
is more than just a course...
Students participating in the UCSB Jazz Ensembles pride themselves on being a part of a larger community of student musicians.
Here, students are given the opportunity to play in a variety of ensembles, including large and small ensembles, standard big bands and combos, and specialty ensembles in the styles of iconic jazz greats.
Our musicians perform on and off stage, in casual settings with their peers, and with prestigious master artists.

Highlights of recent years include...
"Seasons," a Fall 2022 collaboration with the student-run Pops Orchestra • A Winter 2023 tribute to “Women in Jazz” featuring trumpet soloist Barbara Laronga • a first-place competition performance in the College Band division at the 2024 Dos Pueblos High School Jazz Festival • Annual Spring concerts featuring the outstanding graduating members of our UCSB Jazz Community • A Fall 2023 collaboration with the UCSB Chamber Choir, directed by Brent Wilson, of Maria Schneider's "Winter Morning Walks"
Students also regularly perform at SOHO Music Club for the Santa Barbara Jazz Society, for on-campus events such as UCSB’s Open House weekend, in collaboration with other arts departments, and much more.
We encourage all students of all skill levels to reach out and take advantage of the many resources embedded in our program. Come join our musical journey!
